What's Buffale?
Buffale is a free daily word game about Buffalo, New York sports. Every day there's a new five-letter answer, and you get five guesses to crack it. It can be anything from Buffalo sports: the Bills, Sabres, UB, the Braves and other Buffalo teams, plus the players, coaches, venues and moments that go with them, past or present, pro or college. Tiles change color to tell you which letters you've got right. Miss three guesses and you can take a hint. Come back tomorrow for a new one.
How to play
- Guess the day's five-letter Buffalo sports answer in five tries.
- Type a word and press Enter. After each guess the tiles change color to show how close you were.
- After three wrong guesses a Hint button appears and reveals the category.
- There's a new puzzle every day. Your streak and stats save to this device, so there's no account and nothing to sign up for.

Why Buffale exists
Mostly because it could. Buffalo has enough sports history to fill a word game several times over, a daily puzzle is a low-stakes way to keep some of it in circulation, and the domain was available. That is the whole case.
It's built by hand, with no game engine and no site builder. The board, the animations and the sound are all custom.
