Privacy & Terms
Last updated September 12, 2026. Buffale is a one person, hobby sized project. This page says plainly what happens to your data and what the plain English rules are for using the game, not a document written to be defensible in a courtroom.
What Buffale itself collects
There are no accounts and no sign up. The first time you open
Buffale, your browser generates a random id and stores it on your
device (in localStorage). That id, and only that id,
is sent to the server that runs the game so it can remember your
streak, your guesses for the day, and whether you have used the
hint. It is not a name, an email, or anything else that identifies
you, and Buffale never asks you to prove who you are.
A few other small settings (your theme, sound on or off, the high contrast toggle) live only in your browser's own storage and are never sent anywhere.
Google Analytics
Buffale uses Google Analytics to see roughly how many people play and which pages get visited. Google Analytics sets its own cookies and collects standard analytics information: things like your approximate location from your IP address, your device and browser type, and which pages you viewed. Buffale does not connect this to your name or your game data. See Google's own privacy policy for how Google handles it.
Cloudflare
Buffale is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes standard web server logs (like your IP address and the pages you request) the way any host does, and also runs its own performance monitoring across every site it hosts. Buffale does not control that monitoring directly, only that it is allowed to run.
The contact form
If you use the contact form, whatever you type there, including your name and email if you choose to give them, is stored so it can be read and answered. It is only ever seen by the person who runs Buffale, never sold, shared, or used for anything besides answering you and improving the game. If you would like your message deleted, ask through the same form.
Cookies, in short
Buffale's own code does not set any cookies. Google Analytics does, as described above. By playing Buffale, you are okay with that; if you would rather not be tracked by Google Analytics at all, a browser extension or privacy setting that blocks it will not affect your ability to play.
Children's privacy
Buffale is a general audience sports trivia game and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect information from children under 13 beyond the same anonymous device id described above.
Your choices
Clearing your browser's site data for buffale.com resets your anonymous id, your streak, and your local preferences, the same as switching to a new device. There is no account to delete because there is no account.
Terms, in plain English
Buffale is free to play, always. There is nothing to buy and nothing you need to sign up for. Buffale is an independent project, not affiliated with the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, the University at Buffalo, or the NFL, NHL or NBA. Team names, nicknames and history come up because the game is about Buffalo sports, not because any team endorses it, and any team names, logos or marks referenced belong to their own owners.
The game, its code, art, sound and puzzle writing are made by the person credited on the About page. Buffale is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind. The puzzle schedule, the rules, this page and the game itself can all change at any time, and the game can be taken down at any time, though there is no plan to do that.
Don't use Buffale to do anything that would be illegal anywhere else either, like scripting the game to brute force an answer or spamming the contact form. That's it. Play fair, have fun.
